Kaizer Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr has lifted the lid on his club’s pursuit of in-demand Polokwane City FC winger Oswin Appollis.

Appollis has produced outstanding performances for both Bafana Bafana and his club. He scored twice in South Africa’s most recent 3-2 triumph against South Sudan and was voted Man of the Match in the team’s 2-2 draw with Uganda.

The two matches were part of the AFCON 2025 qualifiers and came as he has drawn interest from abroad and the biggest clubs in the country.

With seven goals in all competitions last season, the quicksilver attacker aroused the interest of North African giants as well as Kaizer Chiefs.

Nonetheless, with Algeria’s transfer window now officially closed, a move to North Africa looks to be on wait.

MC Alger was interested in the 23-year-old star’s services but were unable to complete the deal.

Interestingly, Amakhosi has been quite explicit about filling the left wing role with a star player. Their attempts to recruit Cape Town Spurs winger Asanele Velebayi were unsuccessful.

In an interview with Robert Marawa on 947, Motaung Jr indicated that the former Pretoria Callies star was a player they were looking into.

“What I can say about Appollis is I don’t know any club in the country who wouldn’t want to sign him,” Motaung said.

“He’s a top player, and we’re working tirelessly to bring top players to the club.

“We’d love to have him, we’ve had talks with the chairman of Polokwane City, not only about Oswin, other players also. It’s a process that’s ongoing.”

Motaung Jr also indicated that the team is in negotiations with Polokwane City FC chairman Johnny Mogaladi regarding a possible deal.

While Motaung Jr declined to reveal the mechanics of the discussions, he did recognise Appollis’ quality and the club’s desire to sign him.

Appollis’ recent efforts for Bafana in the AFCON 2025 qualifiers have further increased his worth and sparked new attention from big teams.

Chiefs will have heavy competition for his signature, but Motaung Jr’s statements indicate that they are keen to get him to Naturena.

Would Oswin Appollis be a good but for Kaizer Chiefs?
