Woman gang-raped at a birthday party – police launch manhunt

The police in the Free State have launched a manhunt for four suspects who allegedly raped a woman at a birthday celebration in Thabong on Sunday, 4 September.

WOMAN GANG-RAPED AT PARTY

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Captain Stephen Thakeng said the 22-year-old woman was sitting outside and drinking beer at the birthday party at approximately 5:00 on Sunday.

“One male person told her he loved her and instructed the woman to go to the toilet and he followed her. He raped her and three other male suspects took turns in raping her,” he said.

The matter was reported to the Thabong police station and the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit started an investigation.

The four alleged rapists are still at large and residents are asked to help track them down. Information can be provided to Lieutenant-Colonel Kedibone Gopane, the Commander of the Thabong FCS Unit, at 082-442-1372 or via the Crime Stop hotline at 08600-10111.

BRUTAL RAPE AND ASSAULT AT LIMPOPO MORTUARIES

In an unrelated incident in Limpopo, five women were gang-raped and seven men were seriously injured by six armed suspects in the early hours of Sunday.

The attacks came after the gang stormed two funeral parlours near Leoporong along the R37 Road.

“According to reports, two female friends were on their way to visit a boyfriend working at Wisani Burial Society (Funeral Parlour), walking along the R37 road when they were accosted by six men who grabbed them and took them to the first mortuary were they shot and injured one employee,” said Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo.

At the second mortuary, they found three women and six male employees. The men were allegedly beaten with the butts of the suspects’ firearms until they passed out. Then, the five women were raped before being robbed of their cell phones and other possessions.

The alleged rape incidents come on the heels of the brutal gang rape in Krugersdorp, Gauteng, which saw eight women attacked by a group of suspected illegal miners.
