We have pinpointed three reasons for Chiefs fans to be cautiously optimistic for the season ahead.
Kaizer Chiefs defensive signings settling in well
Dillan Solomons has shown personality and dynamism from right-back and is seemingly unfazed by the pressure that faces any new player wearing the famous Chiefs jersey. The ex-Swallows man is already a big favourite among Amakhosi faithful. Centre-back Zitha Kwinika, a product of the club’s youth academy, has also made a superb start to his second stint with Chiefs.
Once things start to click in the attacking third, Chiefs fans can rest assured that they have the beginning of solid foundations at the back.
Itumeleng Khune is back in the fold
There’s only so long you can keep a good man down. 35-year-old Khune brings undoubted quality and vast experience to the dressing room. His legendary distribution skills should also see Chiefs slowly becoming a more fluent and potent outfit.
Form is temporary, class is permanent
There have been concerns about the form of attackers Khama Billiat and Keagan Dolly, and for good reason. The star duo have so far failed to deliver the goods in 2022-23, but they are players with CAF Champions League medals in their cabinets and four DStv Premiership titles between them. and undeniable pedigree. It would be no great surprise to see them both find their shooting boots sooner rather than later.
