Kaizer Chiefs’ offer for top Bafana target is still too low, but…

How much more will they offer?

Kaizer Chiefs’ offer for top Bafana target is still too low, but…

Kaizer Chiefs must up the ante to secure one of their priority targets, Bafana Bafana star Elias Mokwana.

Chiefs get encouragement in pursuit of Elias Mokwana

Mokwana has emerged as a top attacking target for Chiefs during the transfer window. It is believed that the club have already made a bid to Sekhukhune United for his services. According to a Sunday World source, Chiefs have already made an offer for Bafana Bafana and Sekhukhune winger Elias Mokwana. That offer was flatly rejected by the club’s CEO Jonas Malatji. Rumoured abounded that Chiefs’ offer to Babina Noko was in the region of R12 million, while Mokwana’s employers are holding out for something closer to R15 million.

“For now Esperance haven’t tabled any concrete offer but they’ve just indicated verbally that they are interested (in Mokwana). I expect Chiefs to come back with an improved offer in the next 48 hours and then I think the deal will be concluded though I don’t know the exact amount the club is asking because the CEO [Jonas Malatji] is the one handling these things.”

“I remember the same thing happened when we sold them [Chiefs] Maart. Their initial offer was very little and they improved it after three days before signing him. So, I predict that the same thing will happen with Elias (Mokwana) unless Esperance come with a huge offer in the meantime.” their source concluded.

Chiefs want to reshuffle their midfield options

This publication reported on Wednesday that the club identified SuperSport’s Grant Margeman as a priority midfield target. The 26-year-old has been bouncing around the country on loan from Sundowns but has been a rock-solid performer for Matsatsantsa in the last two campaigns. In the previous two completed league seasons, he’s churned out 54 appearances from 60.

Is Mokwana the missing piece of the puzzle?

Kaizer Chiefs finished the 2023-2024 league campaign in tenth position, their worst placing in the history of the DStv Premiership. Their last league title came back in 2015, their most recent piece of major silverware. The club’s next friendly outing is in the Toyota Cup, staged in Bloemfontein, on 28 July. They’ll face new manager Nasreddine Nabi’s old club Young Africans from Tanzania.
