Limpopo police hunt suspect posing as officer in traditional healer killing
Police in Giyani are hunting a motorist who allegedly shot dead an 80-year-old traditional healer at Nwa-Khuwani village Saturday night.
Police in Giyani, Limpopo, are searching for an unknown motorist who allegedly shot and killed an 80-year-old traditional healer at Nwa-Khuwani village late on Saturday night.
Police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba said officers received a report of a murder at about 11 pm on Saturday.
When they arrived at the scene, they found the victim’s son standing next to his father’s body near the gate.
Suspect lured healer and son outside
Ledwaba said the father and son were asleep when a motor vehicle hooted outside their home.
The son went outside to investigate and found an unknown man standing next to a vehicle parked near the gate.
The suspect asked the son to call his father. The elderly man then joined his son at the gate.
According to police, the suspect reportedly told the traditional healer that he was a police detective and claimed there was an outstanding case against him.
The victim was reportedly unaware of any such case.
Ledwaba said the suspect suddenly opened fire on the elderly man, who collapsed at the scene. The suspect then fled in the vehicle.
Emergency medical services declared the victim dead on arrival.
Murder case opened
Police have opened a murder case and are continuing with investigations. The motive for the killing remains unknown.
Police have appealed to members of the public with information to come forward.
