The big early story is that the ruling African National Congress’ (ANC) vote tally appears to have dropped considerably compared to its 2019 results.
In early counting in KwaZulu-Natal, Jacob Zuma’s MK party has eaten into the ANC’s dominance and holds the lead at the time of publishing.
DA should retain power in Western Cape
In the Western Cape, the early vote count suggests the Democratic Alliance (DA) will retain power.
With 365 of 1 572 Voting Districts completed in the Western Cape, the DA has 48.90% of the vote, with the ANC second with 21.50% and the Patriotic Alliance (PA) third with 11.70%.
