Two police officers were seriously injured during a shooting incident on Bellair Road, Durban. According to ALS Paramedics, the incident occurred just after 18:00 on the evening of Thursday, 1 September.

“ALS Paramedics Medical Services arrived on the scene to find total chaos,”

they said.

The SAPS members were trying to arrest suspects when the shootout started

It is understood that members from the South African Police Service (SAPS) were attempting to arrest suspects when a shootout started. One officer sustained a gunshot wound and is in serious condition.

He was stabilised at the scene before being taken to a nearby Durban hospital for further care. A second officer sustained moderate injuries and was stablised at the scene before being transported to a hospital for the further treatment required.

Currently, the events leading up to the incident are unknown. ALS Paramedics confirmed that SAPS are investigating the matter further.

Off-duty police officer KILLED at barbershop in Sandton

Meanwhile, it was reported that an off-duty warrant officer was shot dead while getting his hair cut at a barbershop in Sandton. It is understood that the SAPS member, based at the Sandton Police Station, was at the barbershop on Friday, 26 August.

An unknown man reportedly approached the officer, fired several shots and fled the scene. South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Robert Netshiunda said police are investigating a case of murder. According to Netshiunda, the man approached the cop from behind and started swearing at him before opening fire.

“Police are investigating a case of murder following an incident in which an off-duty police officer was shot and killed in Bramley View. Reports indicate that an unknown man approached the officer from behind and started swearing at him before firing two shots at him. The officer was declared dead on the scene,” said Netshiunda.
