Summer is here and fish is fresher than ever. There are so many great ways to prepare your favourite fish but sometimes you want something simple and comforting. Our smoked fish pie is great for the cool spring evenings and gives you one more way to add healthy fish to your plate. This creamy recipe, topped with beautiful mashed potatoes, is an old-school recipe with a modern twist.
Smoked fish pie tips
You can get deboned and smoked fish at your local butcher so that you don’t have to do it. When thickening the sauce, it’s very similar to making a white sauce, also known as bechamel, a creamy French sauce made with flour, butter and milk. However, you can use the poaching liquid instead of just milk which will have lots of flavour. When you’ve added the mashed potatoes, score it with a fork all over so that you have some crisped potato bits for texture.
