LOOK: Here is your load shedding schedule for this week

Bad news for South Africans as Eskom is expected to enforce more load shedding in the coming week, however the new bouts will be in lower stages, thanks to significant improvement made in recovering the power utility‘s reserves.

The state of the grid forced Eskom to ramp up load shedding to stage 4 on Saturday, but this will be downgraded from Monday morning. The parastatal, which has been struggling to keep the lights on, anticipates that its dam levels at pumped storage schemes, will be fully replenished by then.

“We currently have 5 431MW on planned maintenance, while another 15 760MW of capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns. Eskom will hold a media briefing on Monday to update the public on the state of the power system. Any further significant changes will be promptly communicated. Eskom urges all South Africans to continue using electricity sparingly,” said Eskom spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha on Sunday.

LOAD SHEDDING EXPECTED THIS WEEK

Here is when the various stages of power cuts will be implemented throughout the coming week:

On Sunday – Stage 4 load shedding until Monday morning at 05:00

Stage 3 will then kick in on Monday morning until Tuesday morning, also at 05:00

Stage 2 load shedding will then be implemented from Tuesday morning, at least until Friday at midnight

Meanwhile, with the power cuts underway, the embattled power utility has urged those affected to switch off all their non-electrical applies to avoid power surges when the power returns.

“Failure to do so may lead to unnecessary trips or damages to household appliances when the supply is restored,” Eskom said.
