Major route change for Cape Town’s biggest 10K road race

Cape Town's biggest 10K road race is changing its route for 2026, with runners now finishing in front of a city landmark.

Major route change for Cape Town’s biggest 10K road race

Cape Town’s biggest 10K road race is getting a major route shake-up for its 2026 edition.

For the first time in its 11-year history, the Absa Run Your City Cape Town 10K will finish at the iconic Grand Parade instead of Lower Long Street.

The race takes place on Sunday, 10 May 2026. Last year’s event drew a record field of 15 000 runners.

Run Your City race gets new CBD route

Traditionally, the race started in Milnerton before following Marine Drive and the N1 into the CBD, ending in Lower Long Street.

That opening section remains unchanged.

Runners will still start at Woodbridge Island in Milnerton, move through Paarden Eiland and enter the city via the N1 and FW de Klerk Boulevard.

The biggest change comes once athletes reach the CBD.

Instead of finishing in Lower Long Street, runners will now divert at the Coen Steytler Roundabout into Walter Sisulu Avenue before heading into Long Street.

The new 10 kilometre route then continues up Long Street for about 1.2km, before turning into Wale Street, down Adderley Street and finally into Darling Street for the finish in front of the City Hall at the Grand Parade.

“For the first time in its 11-year history, the race will finish on the iconic Grand Parade with a backdrop of City Hall and Table Mountain,” organisers said.

Grand Parade finish expected to transform race atmosphere

The new finish line places runners directly in front of Cape Town City Hall, with Table Mountain in the background.

Organisers said the route had to be reconfigured “to accommodate the end stage and account for 10km in the reroute.”

The race begins at 09:00, with several major road closures planned across the CBD and Atlantic Seaboard.

The event will also impact some MyCiTi bus routes, particularly in the CBD and Hout Bay corridor.

A shuttle service will transport runners from the Golden Arrow Bus Terminus to the start line in Milnerton from early Sunday morning.
