“Mark Wood’s elbow stiffened and hurt during the West Indies series,” ECB said. After playing through the agony in the first Test against Sri Lanka, he was diagnosed with bone stress. His recuperation is underway.”
The ECB also warned Wood will require rest and specialist treatment to heal before playing cricket again. The board expected Wood to be ready for England’s white-ball tour of India and the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan in February 2025.
England’s pace attack relies on Wood’s lightning-fast speed, bounce, and swing, so his departure is significant. He won’t participate in the Test series against Pakistan and New Zealand, so England may have to switch bowlers.
England hopes to provide Wood the care he needs to recover. His fitness will be monitored often to simplify future series and international events.
England believes 33-year-old pacer Mark Wood can return next year after injury.
