Seven people were declared dead after two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision in Kuruman in the Northern Cape.

Seven people were killed and three others left in critical condition when two light motor vehicles were involved in a head-on collision on the R31, approximately 15km outside Kuruman, Northern Cape.

The accident happened on Saturday morning, 24 September 2022. 

HEAD-ON COLLISION CLAIMS SEVEN LIVES 

According to emergency services, ER24, together with other services, arrived on the scene shortly before 12:00 and found one vehicle on its roof on the road while another light motor vehicle was some distance away from the road.

On closer inspection, medics found five people, including a child, lying inside the one vehicle. Unfortunately, all five patients had already succumbed to their injuries and were later declared dead.

On inspection of the second vehicle, medics found that two patients had sustained fatal injuries while three others were in critical condition.

“Medics treated the patients and provided the three critically injured with advanced life support. Once treated, the patients were transported to nearby hospitals for further care.”

Local authorities were reportedly on the scene as well for further investigations.

EMS CREW MEMBERS IN FATAL ACCIDENT

In another recent incident, a head-on collision on the R43 Wolseley Ceres Road, Worcester, between an ambulance and truck claimed the lives of two EMS crew members.

Reports revealed that the ambulance collided head-on with a tanker truck. The Western Cape Department of Health also confirmed that no patient was in the ambulance at the time of the collision.
