Mngqithi knew by SMS that he was going to be fired by Sundowns
Manqoba Mngqithi didn't know he was going to be fired until just moments before Tuesday's meeting with Sundowns bosses.
Manqoba Mngqithi knew from the corridors that he was going to be fired by Mamelodi Sundowns.
In an interview with Robert Marawa on Radio 947, Mngqithi revealed he received an SMS on his way to a meeting with Sundowns bosses on Tuesday.
And this SMS was from ‘someone’ who wanted to verify if the news of Sundowns making an ‘announcement’ was true.
At that point, Mngqithi said he figured what the meeting with the Sundowns hierarchy was all about.
He was in charge of 19 games as Sundowns head coach, won 13, lost four and drew two.

MNGQITHI ON HOW HE KNEW HIS SUNDOWNS TENURE WAS OVER
“I would be lying if I said I knew [that I was leaving the club]; I just got a message from someone when I was going into a meeting yesterday [Tuesday] with the leadership of the club,” revealed Mngqithi.
“Somebody hinted that there was going to be an announcement. Yesterday, fortunately, we were off, and we had to attend the meeting with the leadership.
“And that’s when the whole story came out, but fortunately, someone sent me a message and asked if it was true, and then I started to know what this meeting would be about.
“I cannot fault anyone for that because probably when I got the job, someone, somewhere, was still the coach, and the negotiations were going on behind.
“That’s the name of the game, that’s being proactive in ensuring there is no gap in between. I cannot now talk ill about them. It’s normal in football,” concluded Mngqithi.
