Four suspects wearing school uniforms attempted to rob an 18-year-old Grade 10 learner from Ndwedwe while he walked through the Verulam CBD in KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday.

According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), the teenager was walking along Todd Street when four males wearing school uniforms approached him.

One of the suspects produced a firearm and attempted to rob him of his cellphone.

The teenager refused to hand over the device and ran from the scene.

Suspects flee the area

The suspects fled along Wick Street in the central business district after the victim escaped.

A passerby assisted the teenager, prompting members of RUSA to respond to the scene.

Reaction officers interviewed the victim and launched a search for the robbers.

No arrests made

Officers searched the surrounding area but did not find the robbers.

No injuries were reported.
