New international flight from Durban confirmed: Here’s what to know

More details have emerged about the proposed Durban to Réunion air service, confirming that the route will operate as a charter rather than a scheduled commercial flight.

The service is being launched through a partnership between Engage Connection and FLY VETIV’AIR, with Global Airways providing operational support.

Engage Connection acts as the marketing arm of FLY VETIV’AIR, which is both the charterer and marketing operator of the flights.

Charter operation, not scheduled service for new Durban flight

According to Travel News, a Global Airways spokesperson said the initiative will begin as a charter operation and should not be confused with a regularly scheduled airline service.

“The initiative is a strategic partnership between Engage Connection and FLY VETIV’AIR to launch direct flights between Durban and Réunion Island. Global Airways’ role is limited to the operational delivery of the aircraft, and the concept will commence as a charter operation,” the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson added that all operations remain subject to regulatory processes, commercial alignment and final approvals.

Flight schedule and aircraft details

The first charter flight is scheduled to depart on 27 February, with the return flight planned for 6 March. Services will operate on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

According to Engage Connection, additional departure dates are planned for 28 February and 1, 6, 7 and 8 March, with return flights scheduled for 7, 8, 13, 14 and 15 March.

The route will be operated using an Airbus A320-200 aircraft configured with 168 seats, including 12 premium economy seats and 156 economy class seats.
