The Legal Practice Council building was on fire on Monday morning and six offices between the first and third floor were damaged.

Two suspects have been arrested for the fire that engulfed the Legal Practice Council building on Paul Kruger Street in Tshwane CBD next to the North Gauteng High Court.

The fire broke out at approximately 08:20 on Monday, 5 September and six offices between the first and third floors of the building were on fire. 

TWO SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOR ARSON 

Gauteng police spokesperson, Colonel Dimakatso Sello confirmed that two men aged 21 and 46 were arrested on Monday for arson and malicious damage to property. 

Sello said the two men went to the Law Society building where they damaged the furniture and started a fire which was extinguished before causing serious damages or injuries. 

“The two are expected to appear before a Magistrate’s court soon,” she said.

City of Tshwane Emergency Services spokesperson, Deputy Chief Charles Mabaso said emergency medical practitioners treated a total of eight patients on the scene.

Mabaso said two of the patients who were suspected by security to be arsonists were also treated for minor injuries and transported to hospital.

“One other patient was treated for smoke and inhalation and was transported to hospital while the fourth one was treated for smoke inhalation and released on scene. 

“Only six offices suffered fire damages and parts of the three floors suffered smoke and water damages,”

Firefighters had to conduct  positive ventilation to get rid of excessive smoke from the building, reportedly.
