Niger airport attacked by armed groups in first attack on strategic site
In Niger, an attack targeted Niamey airport around midnight and went on for hours into the morning on January 29. This is the first time such a strategic site has been targeted. Niger's military leader has accused the presidents of France, Benin and Ivory Coast of supporting the armed groups which attacked the airport but provided no evidence to back up the accusation. Analysts believe the attack was led by jihadists, although no claim of responsibility has been made.
