‘No hard feelings but we want those points’ – Lesotho to Bafana

Lesotho could be just one point behind Bafana Bafana should FIFA decides to deduct points after Teboho Mokoena's yellow card.

‘No hard feelings but we want those points’ – Lesotho to Bafana

Lesotho have reportedly lodged a complaint with FIFA after discovering that Bafana Bafana midfielder Teboho Mokoena was not eligible to play against them last week.

Bafana won 2-0 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium last Friday in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier. On Tuesday, news broke out from the Nigeria media that Mokoena was on two yellow cards. He was booked on matchday one against Benin and again on matchday four against Zimbabwe, meaning he was not eligible to feature against Likuena.

Lesotho has blown the whistle on Bafana, and it remains to be seen if FIFA will deduct three points from Broos’ men. After South Africa’s 2-0 win over Benin on Tuesday, Broos refused to comment on the matter.

Lesotho want ‘their three points’ from FIFA after Bafana fielded Mokoena

“The question is, was a rule broken? If yes, we are fully entitled to protest and get the points. We were made aware of Mokoena’s bookings and we have since sent a formal inquiry to CAF and Fifa,” said LFA secretary-general Mokhosi Mohapi as per Sowetanlive.

“We have heard that Nigeria also want to protest and they too are entitled to that because the result (last Friday) prejudices everyone. Suppose it was us who fielded a defaulter and got the points, Bafana would have done the same.”

If FIFA docked Bafana points, they will remain first in Group C with 10 points, a point above Lesotho. With four matches remaining, it’s still all to play for given how evenly matches the teams are. If the protest is thrown out, then Broos’men will likely qualify.
