Orlando Pirates star Fortune Makaringe says that the past is the past and won’t impact how the Sea Robbers go about their business in the MTN 8 this weekend.

Pirates have lost their last five in all competitions against Sundowns but Makaringe says they aren’t dwelling on that at all.

He said: “It’s a good thing that coach Jose was not there (when Sundowns dominated Pirates). 

“That’s why we don’t dwell much on what happened in the past. We’d rather look to the future.

“In as much as I was there when they dominated us, I also played in the past when we dominated them. So we can go back and forth about this.

“We are so much of an egocentric team that we only care about ourselves. We care about our team and we have not been talking much about them (Sundowns).

“All we know is that we have good players, the competition is higher (than the previous season) and it gives us that positive edge. We have everything in our power to fight for something.”

Thapelo Xoki had said that Orlando Pirates would be doing everything they can at the back to keep Sundowns out but Makaringe said everyone would need to play their part.

“I know Thapelo meant that we are going to have to perform as a team. It is not just about individuals. We are going to fight together as a team. We will start defending from up front and attacking from the defence. So, we will stay together in everything we do.”
