The PCB is likely to effect wholesome changes in the squad, not only meant for the highly promising white-ball series against Australia later in November but a development which can mark the unprecedented changing of guards in the Pakistan cricket team’s captaincy too, with Mohammad Rizwan likely to take over as the new captain of the side.
In fact, Rizwan has been displaying his versatility in full measure every time he opens the innings in T20s or continues to play match-saving knocks in Tests. His attitude is overall symbolic of the fighting spirit epitomized by Pakistan cricket, and as captain, he will seek to assure the same resilience filters down to the next set of cricketers. He has earlier captained the international team twice against New Zealand during Test matches in 2020 and 2021.
Star batsman and former white-ball captain Babar Azam, and pacers Naseem Shah and Shaheen Afridi are set to return for the series after they were left out in a Test squad list by Pakistan after succumbing to a series-opening defeat against England. The selection committee will also confirm squads that will tour Australia, featuring newcomers Mehran Mumtaz and Sufiyan Muqeem being called up for the first time.
