On Friday, Pakistan defeated West Indies by 20 runs in the first semi-final at the County Ground in Northampton to advance to the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2024 final. Pakistani bowlers performed well after setting the 199-run goal, sending their team to the final to meet India or Australia. Pakistan’s greatest bowler, Sohail Khan, took four wickets and limited the West Indies to 178 runs.

West Indies started slowly, scoring only seven runs in the opening four overs, but Chris Gayle blasted boundaries in the fifth over to find their groove. Gayle was dismissed by Sohail for 26 runs. West Indies lost wickets regularly, but Ashley Nurse hit a quick 36 runs on 24 balls and looked like he would lead the chase, but Kamran Akmal run him out.

Rayad Emrit succumbed to Shoaib Malik after a 29-run 9-ball innings. Wahab Riaz and Shoaib Malik each took two wickets, while Sohail took four. Pakistan lost Sharjeel Khan, Sohaib Maqsood, and Shoaib Malik without scoring after being asked to bat first. Pakistan was saved by a 77-run partnership between captain Younis Khan and Kamran Akmal as the West Indies seemed in control.

Both batters appeared set, however Akmal lost his wicket after reaching 46 runs on 31 balls with eight fours. Pakistan lost two wickets after the wicketkeeper batter’s departure, with Shahid Afridi (1) and Misbah-ul-Haq (0) returning to the pavilion. After 65 runs, Fidel Edwards withdrew Younis, but Aamer Yahim and Sohail Tanvir scored 61 runs down the order.

Yamin scored 37 on 17 balls and Tanvir 33 on 17. West Indies’ Edwards, Benn, Taylor, and Smith took three, two, and one wickets, respectively.
