Pakistan captain Shan Masood praised his teammates on Saturday for showing great spirit to win back-to-back Tests against England and their first Test series at home since 2021. After losing an innings in the series opener, Pakistan levelled the series in Multan before bowling a raging turner in Rawalpindi.
For Pakistan, spin twins Noman Ali and Sajid Khan took 19 of 20 English wickets to win by nine wickets and win the series 2-1. Masood said of the win: “They unite like London buses.
First win after long time, followed by series win. This is special. Pakistan made a brave selection move by omitting Babar Azam, Naseem Shah, and Shaheen Afridi after losing the opener. Sajid and Noman were called in and took 39 of 40 English wickets in the last two Tests, as well as useful batting cameos, to justify the choice. Sajid cut his chin while batting on Friday and had to change his shirt, but he returned on Saturday to spin a web around the English batsmen.
“For everyone to stand up and give their best means a lot,” said Shan, who hit Shoaib Bashir for six to secure Pakistan’s win. It’s about characters, people you can trust, and individuals who can bleed for you—Sajid did yesterday. “To be here and standing as the winning team is the most special thing for us,” he said.
Only Joe Root (33) seemed comfortable against the hosts’ marauding spinners as England collapsed for 112 in the second innings. Their flamboyant batting has struggled on shifting surfaces and against in-form spinners. “The last couple of Tests we’ve been thrown some challenges, and I think it’s pretty easy to assess that we weren’t able to stand up to those challenges,” England captain Ben Stokes said after their loss.
“Sport is excellent because difficulties always arise, but we couldn’t match Pakistan’s effort in the last two games. “We’ve got a very quick turnaround to another challenge in New Zealand, so we’ve got to put the disappointment of the last two games behind us and move on,” said.
