With Champions Trophy 2025 preparations underway, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi justified the board’s decision to improve Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi stadiums by saying none of the country’s stadiums satisfy international standards.

“There’s a huge difference in international stadiums and those of ours […] none of our stadiums are of international standard,” Naqvi told reporters on Monday after reviewing Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium’s remodelling.

Before hosting the Champions Trophy 2025, the PCB will rehabilitate Karachi’s National Stadium, Rawalpindi International Cricket Stadium, and Lahore’s venue for Rs12.8 billion.

The chairman approved the stadium plans this week at BDP Pattern’s London headquarters, a prominent UK architectural firm.

Next year’s February-March competition will be funded by the International Cricket Council (ICC) at roughly $70 million. The funding will cover February 12–18 support expenses.

A day ago, the board moved the second Test of the two-match series between Pakistan and Bangladesh from Karachi to Rawalpindi due to National Stadium restorations and construction.

Naqvi said the upgradation project is moving quickly and he hopes to finish it by Champions Trophy 2025.

Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) workers work 24/7. Our stadiums will be world-class, and basic amenities are our top priority “PCB chief.

He stated that security agencies recommended them to hold matches without spectators and that the Pakistan-Bangladesh Test was moved to Rawalpindi after proper deliberations. He added that additional modifications can be made in the future.

Naqvi further stated that the board has purchased a property near Gaddafi Stadium to serve as a team accommodation, disproving any lack of cooperation. He noted that the project is hard and whether it will be finished by next year’s huge event will be determined in 10 days.
