Award-winning ëlgr has announced that it will officially close its doors at its Kloof Street location at the end of the month.
The acclaimed Cape Town restaurant confirmed that its final dinner service will take place on Saturday, 30 May 2026, marking the end of what it described as an “incredible chapter” at 75 Kloof Street.
‘One More Meal, A Final Toast’
In a message shared on social media, the restaurant invited loyal diners to return for one final experience before the closure.
“After an incredible chapter at 75 Kloof Street, our restaurant will be serving its last dinner on 30 May,” the statement read.
“We’d love for you to join us before then for one more meal, a final toast, and a last chance to enjoy your favourite dishes with us.”
Known for its refined seasonal menu and intimate dining experience, ëlgr has built a loyal following among Cape Town food lovers and visitors alike.
Not the End of the Brand
While the closure signals the end of ëlgr’s current operation, the restaurant suggested this is not a permanent goodbye.
In the same announcement, the team hinted that a new concept or direction is already being developed behind the scenes.
“While this part of our story is coming to a close, something new is already taking shape behind the scenes. Stay tuned as we evolve in a new direction,” the restaurant said.
No further details have yet been shared about what the next phase may involve or whether it will remain in Cape Town.
Eat Out Recognition
The announcement comes shortly after ëlgr – which means ‘moose’ in Old Norse – received recognition at the recent Eat Out Awards, where it earned one star, cementing its reputation as one of the city’s standout dining destinations.
For regular patrons, the coming days will offer one final opportunity to enjoy the restaurant’s signature dishes and farewell the beloved Kloof Street institution before it closes its doors at month-end.
