Proteas player chirp: ‘Gebruik dit, sy p*es man!’ [WATCH]

The Proteas secured a thrilling win over Afghanistan on Wednesday in a wild match that required two super overs to decide the result, and although the game was played in good spirits, there was one tense moment during the latter stages.

In one unexpected incident, Afghanistan player Mohammad Nabi asked the umpires to instruct Proteas bowler Lungi Ngidi to remove his yellow wristbands, suggesting it was making the ball difficult to see upon release.

Initially, the umpires disagreed with the batsman, before asking Ngidi to remove the one on his right arm – his bowling wrist.

However, in a clip that has gone viral online, a South African player can be heard telling Ngidi in no uncertain terms that he should continue to wear the wristbands.

In the audio, which South Africans will certainly understand the context of, you can hear a Proteas player shouting to Ngidi: “Gebruik dit [use it], sy p*es man, gebruik dit!”

IMPORTANT WIN

The hard-fought victory for the Proteas has effectively sealed their qualification for the Group 8 stage of the T20 World Cup, with Ngidi bagging his second successive Man of the Match award.

“I’ve lost so much weight today. I have never been that stressed in my life in a cricket game, but I am happy to come out on the winning side,” Ngidi said in a TV interview after the match.

“I knew that I was probably going to be the option (to bowl the Super Over), and the captain said just keep doing the same. I almost got a wicket again with the slower balls, but it just wasn’t to be in the Super Over.

“The captain said it was going to be a scrap, but I didn’t know it was going to be that much of a scrap. But being able to win two Super Overs, with our hitters hitting like that, and then we obviously had to try and defend it, I am very happy with that.”
