Donald Trump's supporters have laid the blame for his assassination attempt firmly on the Democratic party amid escalating political violence in the country, claiming that Joe Biden and other leaders portrayed Trump as an autocrat who poses a threat to democracy. A Reuters analysis, however, found that fatal political violence over the last 20 years more frequently came from the American right than from the left.
