Revealed: Key expectation on new Orlando Pirates coach

Orlando Pirates have yet to introduce the next coach to replace the departed Jose Riveiro, but one key criterion is known.

FOCUS ON YOUNG PLAYERS

Former Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro became a legend after delivering three MTN8 titles and two Nedbank Cup trophies in three seasons. But that is not all. The 49-year-old Spaniard developed young players such as Relebohile Mofokeng, Mohau Nkota, Siyabonga Ndlozi, Yanga Madiba, Simphiwe Selepe and Cemran Dansin.

While Azola Tshobeni, Thabiso Sesane and Boitumelo Radiopane made their Orlando Pirates debuts before Jose Riveiro’s arrival, the trio enjoyed increased playing minutes under Riveiro.

According to Soccer Laduma, the next coach is expected to continue the youthful approach.

“Pirates are proud of the work done with their young players,” an insider told Soccer Laduma. The next coach will have to be aligned with that vision. It’s not just about results, it’s about the future.”

In the meantime, the club is linked with the likes of Rulani Mokwena and Pitso Mosimane.
