Rhulani Mokwena names ‘POTS’ nominees, includes Pirates star!
Sundowns coach Rhulani Mokwena has included players from rivals Pirates and Stellenbosch in his Player of The Season nominees list.
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rhulani Mokwena has named an Orlando Pirates star, a Stellenbosch star and four Brazilians in his Player of The Season nomination list!
Sundowns eased to a record-extending seventh consecutive DStv Premiership title. Pirates on the other hand won the MTN8 while Stellenbosch came out trumps in the inaugural Carling Cup.
There’s been a number of top performers however Rhulani Mokwena has named his favourites to win the coveted Footballer of the Season award. Take a look at his picks below.

“I honestly think, in my opinion, as I said even before, it’s Ronwen Williams, Lucas Ribeiro, Marcelo Allende and Teboho Mokoena,” Rhulani Mokwena said as quoted by IDiski Times.
“And then, there must be, you have to commend the contribution of Patrick Maswanganyi and maybe Jayden Adams.
“But the reality is the level of Ronza (Williams), the level of Tebza (Mokoena), the level of Marcelo Allende, when he comes on today, you can see, and the level of Lucas Ribeiro, for me they’ve been outstanding this season.”
In other news, Orlando Pirates have reportedly secured the services of talented SuperSport United defender Kegan Johannes for next season.
Despite being just 23 years of age, Johannes already has over 70 top-flight appearances to his name. The speedy fullback made a name for himself at Ajax Cape Town (now Cape Town Spurs) before joining SuperSport United in 2021.
According to the latest reports, Jose Riveiro’s side have swooped in to sign the talented defender in a big-money move!
Johannes had recently signed a new contract extension at SuperSport United, meaning Orlando Pirates had to fork out the big bucks for their target.

“SuperSport United defender Kegan Johannes is on his way to join Orlando Pirates next season,” a Sportswire report read.
“Pirates are therefore aiming to strengthen their squad for their upcoming CAF club competition campaign next season. They have already secured qualification through their Nedbank Cup final appearance against Mamelodi Sundowns on 1 June at Mbombela Stadium.
“Sportswire has been told the deal is done. Johannes would be joining the club he also scored against in a DStv Premiership match at Orlando Stadium in March 2022.”
