Rizwan lauds Saim and Agha Salman’s heroics against South Africa

White-ball skipper Mohammad Rizwan complimented Saim Ayub and Agha Salman after Pakistan beat South Africa by three wickets in the first ODI of the three-match series on Tuesday in Paarl.

He praised the duo’s calm under pressure in the post-match presentation. The game was teamwork. Their openers started well, but our spinners throttled them. Both Ayub and Agha performed maturely. The knock like Agha’s was long overdue, Rizwan said.

Agha Salman’s sportsmanship in awarding Ayub Player of the Match was also noted by the wicket-keeper batsman.

“ODIs are long, so you can always recover. Taking wickets after the powerplay and in the middle overs will keep you in the game. I keep the squad together, and I’m glad Agha gave Ayub the honor, he said.

An excellent collaboration between Ayub and Agha Salman helped Pakistan win. Pakistan fell short of 240, losing four wickets for 60 runs. Ayub’s fast 109 off 119 balls and Agha’s undefeated 82 off 90 sparked a 141-run stand that favored Pakistan.

Pakistan reached 242/7 in 49.3 overs thanks to Agha Salman’s boundary in the penultimate over after a late collapse. Heinrich Klaasen (86 off 97) and Aiden Markram (35 off 54) shared 73 runs to help South Africa reach 239/9 in 50 overs.

The hosts started well with Ryan Rickelton and Tony de Zorzi’s 70-run opening pair, but Pakistan’s spinners, led by Salman Ali Agha (4/32), destroyed the middle order. Shaheen Afridi and Saim Ayub both took one wicket, while Abrar Ahmed took two. Pakistan leads the series 1-0 heading into tomorrow’s second ODI in Cape Town.
