On Thursday, England Lions’ rising hitter Rocky Flintoff smashed his father Andrew’s record with a gutsy century against Cricket Australia XI at the Allan Border Field. Rocky, who hit 108 off 127 deliveries in the tour match, became the youngest England Lions century scorer at 16 years and 291 days.
Before him, his father Andrew struck a century against Kenya in 1998 aged 20 years and 28 days. The success came despite his poor first-class record and concerns about his England Lions selection for the Australia tour.
Rocky played four first-class and seven List-A matches before the Australia tour.
The right-handed hitter scored 87 runs in four first-class matches at 12.42 and his highest score was 32. Rocky has scored 167 in seven List A matches at 23.85 and a strike rate of over 60.
In September, the renowned all-rounder became England Lions head coach, and on his debut tour of South Africa this month, his son Rocky was promoted from England Under-19s to the Lions.
This Lions team includes England Test players Shoaib Bashir, Tom Hartley, and Josh Tongue.
