In 2016, South Africans were in the top 20 of Pornhub’s most frequent viewers list, standing far ahead of most countries on the continent. The popular porn site, which is essentially the equivalent of YouTube, recorded 33.5 billion visitors to the site in 2018 — Mail & Guardian reported.

This week, OnlyFans (another popular adult entertainment platform) revealed that business was booming when it announced it paid its owner, Leonid Radvinsky, about $517 million (R9 billion) in dividends in a space of two years.

With these stats, and a lot more, Xoli Mfeka — a well-known South African porn star — announced last week that she will be hosting a masterclass.

XOLI MFEKA ON HOW MUCH SHE MAKES FROM PORN

Xoli Mfeka has previously spoken candidly about the porn industry, revealing how she got in and how much she makes.

Last year, the adult film star told Mac G and Sol Phenduka during her interview on their YouTube channel, Podcast and Chill, that the business of creating sexually explicit content is very lucrative. Mfeka told the podcasters that she earns up to R90 000 a month creating pornographic content. SA CHILDREN ARE WATCHING PORN: STUDY

While the porn industry continues to thrive, there’s a growing concern with the age group of pornographic content consumers in South Africa.

Last month, a disturbing study by the Youth Research Unit (BMR unit) of Unisa’s Bureau for Market Research found that more than half (55%) of young South African children are regularly watching pornography online.

According to the study, at least 10% of those kids watch adult videos every day. This is not even the most shocking part, as the study found:

“35% of the children watch child pornography and 30% watch violent pornography. Nearly 65% also watch pornography between a man and a woman.

“They don’t really care that child pornography is illegal.”
