Seven7 Drive and Kia, partners raising child cancer awareness

13 September 2022: Kia South Africa this week reaffirmed its support of the Seven7 Drive in aid of childhood cancer awareness. A founding partner of the initiative, Kia will provide the Seven7 Drive team with a Kia Sorento, which will traverse the country over seven days to visit seven cities. This year, a host of new and additional fundraising initiatives have been added to the program in order to raise even more funds for the Seven7 Drive’s official beneficiary, Cupcakes of Hope.

“When Danie and Margaret approached us with the idea for the Seven7 Drive seven years ago, Kia immediately jumped aboard to support the cause,” says Christo Valentyn, GM Marketing for Kia South Africa. “Over the past seven years, the Seven7 Drive has covered vast distances in just about every Kia, and it’s a full-circle moment for us as the team undertakes this milestone journey in the latest Sorento, the Kia model that took on the challenge of the very first Seven7 Drive.”

As in previous years, the adventure is spearheaded by the Seven7 Drive initiative’s founders: well-known adventure and overlanding journalist, Danie Botha, will lead the drive, with all back-end logistics managed by equally well-known events expert, Margaret Pretorius.

Working with a host of Seven7 Drive Angels, the organisers have been hard at work collecting toys, toiletries and basic necessities which they’ll deliver to kids at the paediatric wards of the various hospitals that will be visited on the route. Adventure Afrika magazine again joins the drive as media partner and will be represented by Anton Willemse Jr.

Seven7 Drive and Kia: From Rhodes, with love

Leaving Johannesburg bright and early on Tuesday, 20 September 2022, the team will visit various hospitals in across the country, including Durban, Gqeberha, Cape Town, Upington, and Polokwane amongst others, before concluding the drive in Pretoria on Monday, 26 September.

One of this year’s highlights include an intimate concert by renowned South African singer, Mathys Roets, on Wednesday, 21 September 2022, at the well-known Walkerbouts Inn in the scenic village of Rhodes in the Eastern Cape, the second overnight stop of this year’s Seven7 Drive. The concert starts at 19:00, and tickets cost only R100 per person. All proceeds from the event will be donated to Cupcake of Hope.

“I’m looking forward to being a part of this amazing initiative,” comments Roets. “With the Seven7 Drive, we can make a real difference for kids with cancer. We can give them hope and allow them to dream about their future.”

For more information on the concert, and to book accommodation, contact Walkerbouts Inn on 045-974-9290 or visit www.walkerbouts.co.za.

Gala ending for Seven7 Drive

This year sees the Seven7 Drive conclude with a gala fundraising dinner in Pretoria on Monday, 26 September 2022. Inspired by the Seven7 Drive team’s passion and the incredible work done by its beneficiary, Cupcakes of Hope, renowned restauranteur, Fortunato Mazzone, along with his wife and business partner, Veralda Mazzone, is hosting a three-course dining experience – with wine and a live music performance by Bongi and Papi Musa – at Forti TOO Restaurant in Lynnwood Bridge.

“On this night, Forti will cook his heart out, and the artists will sing their hearts out for a truly wonderful cause. It is our honour to host this evening as a contribution to the success of the brilliant Seven7 Drive fundraising effort for Cupcakes of Hope,” comments Veralda Mazzone. “Forti’s Papa passed away from leukaemia in 2021, so cancer is a cause very close to our hearts. We dedicate the food of this evening to his memory, and to everything he taught Forti to do behind the stove.”

Only 50 tickets are available for this gala dinner at R1,000 per ticket. All proceeds from the evening will be donated to Cupcakes of Hope. To book your seats, please contact Margaret Pretorius at info@matchsticksa.com or 082-323-4744.
