Eskom says it will continue with stage 4 load shedding, at least until midnight, after which stage 2 of the rolling blackouts will kick in and continue until Wednesday morning at 05:00.
On Wednesday afternoon, stage 3 load shedding will then come into effect for eight hours – from 16:00 until 00:00 on Wednesday and Thursday. Eskom will then revert back to stage 2 for the same period at least until Friday.
“Stage 4 loadshedding will continue to be implemented until midnight, thereafter Stage 2 will be implemented until 05:00 on Wednesday. Loadshedding Stage 3 will resume at 16:00 until midnight on Wednesday and be repeated on Thursday. Stage 2 will then be implemented from 16:00 until midnight on Friday. Eskom will publish a further update on Friday afternoon, or as soon as any further significant changes occur,” said Eskom spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha in a statement on Monday afternoon.

ESKOM ANNOUNCES STAGE 4 LOAD SHEDDING ON MONDAY MORNING…
The move comes just hours after Eskom announced that the breakdown of five generating units forced the implementation of stage 4. The embattled power utility had already been expected to enforce stage 2 load shedding from 16:00 until midnight, from Monday until Wednesday.
“Since yesterday morning a unit each at Duvha, Medupi as well as three units at Kendal power stations have returned to service. A generation unit each at Arnot, Camden, Tutuka and Kusile power stations remain out of service following breakdowns in the past 24 hours. We currently have 5 106MW on planned maintenance, while another 15 576MW of capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns,” Mantshantsha said.
South Africans have been reminded that the rolling blackouts are implemented as a last resort meant to protect the national grid from total collapse.
