SIX Kaizer Chiefs players are on the chopping block

This was inevitable.

SIX Kaizer Chiefs players are on the chopping block

Unpopular decisions must be made when the Kaizer Chiefs squad gets its final finishing touches ahead of 2024-2025.

Six players on their way out of Kaizer Chiefs

Itumeleng Khune

It’s been one of the longest farewell tours in history but at some stage, 37-year-old Khune will have to pack his bags and close off a long and illustrious chapter. He won six major honours in 347 appearances, earning 91 caps for Bafana Bafana in parallel. It depends on where you stand and what you prioritize, but this guy is a club legend. Fiacre Ntwari arrives to challenge Bruce Bvuma for the number one spot between the sticks. Nobody can truly replace Khune though.

Ranga Chivaviro

Once a prolific striker, the former Marumo Gallants man looks lost in front of goal at a bigger club. If the board can get a decent fee for the 31-year-old, they should cut their losses. Injuries haven’t helped his cause either.

Mduduzi Mdantsane

Mduduzi Mdantsane’s situation is a little more complicated. The former Cape Town City playmaker has picked up yet another injury, throwing a spanner in the works of his 2024-225 ambitions. No suitors will want to bring him in until he’s fully recovered, so his career is at a standstill right now. Chiefs had made the 29-year-old left-footer available for loan so he could get game time before he picked up an unfortunate knock. He spent long periods on the treatment table last season too.

Sabelo Radebe

24-year-old attacking midfielder Sabelo Radebe has hardly featured, making only 18 appearances across all competitions since 2021. He made 10 league appearances in 2021-2022 but only three outings in the two subsequent campaigns. A loan exit looks inevitable.

Ashley Du Preez

27-year-old versatile attacker Du Preez was an important outlet for Chiefs last term. Selling him, therefore, represents a massive risk and could incite frustration in fans. However, the upside is that there are some wealthy suitors lurking and willing to pay around R30 million to secure his signature. That could be invested in two classy attackers as replacements. Think about it. Besides, he only got four goals in 23 league appearances last term. A huge chunk of change from his sale could free up some interesting options in the market.

Zitha Kwinika

The 30-year-old former Stellies star was part of the last Chiefs squad to win silverware. In 2024, however, he’s a fringe player earning exorbitant wages. With Thatayaone Ditlhokwe and Given Msimango installed as the first-choice defensive pairing, there’s no way the club can justify keeping him on a R370k monthly salary, despite his versatility and experience.

Do you think all six of these players should leave?
