‘Still solid at the back’: Sundowns defender Grant Kekana’s age shocks SA

Mamelodi Sundowns star Grant Kekana recently turned a year older, and social media was abuzz with warm birthday messages.

Despite being one of the most celebrated Premier League players of his time, the Mamelodi Sundowns star has managed to keep his private life under wraps, leaving many to guess.

GRANT KEKANA’S AGE REVEALED

Thanks to his huge social media following, Grant Kekana often trends whenever he posts or gets posted.

Taking to Instagram, Mamelodi Sundowns posted, “Wishing Grant Kekana a very happy birthday as he celebrates his special day today! Have a great day, Zeda.”

However, against the post, the South African connected the dots about his age. The 32-year-old was born on 31 October 1992 in Polokwane, South Africa.

Mzansi was puzzled by Grant Kekana’s age. Others were more than convinced that he was fit as a fiddle.

No doubt, fans were more than convinced that the star was in the last years of his playing career. He joins a host of footballers who recently celebrated their birthdays.

In October, former Mamelodi Sundowns star Bongani Zungu turned a year older. The 32-year-old was born in the East Rand in 1992 in Duduza, west of Nigel.

CAREER

Grant Kekana started his youth career with the University of Pretoria. However, he was later promoted to the senior team. In 2010, he joined SuperSport United. He made over 30 appearances.

In 2013, Grant Kekana left SuperSport United for the University of Pretoria. However, in 2015, he had his second dance with SuperSport United.

After over 90 appearances for the club, he switched the floor to Mamelodi Sundowns in 2021.

MAKING HEADLINES

He has had his fair share of headlines despite keeping his private life under wraps. His ties with Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema have often thrust him into top trends.

The EFF President welcomed Bafana Bafana at the OR Tambo International Airport earlier this year after finishing third in the biggest football tournament in Africa – the Africa Cup of Nations.

Malema praised Kekana and said that he had always been his brother and had known him since he was young.

“He is my young man, and the same goes for all of them; those are my younger brothers. The same relationship and support given to Grant is the same relationship and support I would give to all of them.

“They are a special kind of people who have made a decision to go and represent our country,” Malema said.
