This will be Cape Town City’s first ever appearance in the CAF Champions League after finishing second on tbe log behind Mamelodi Sundowns last season.

Now, Tinkler has confirmed that he will watch from the stands due to the strict rules enforced by CAF when it comes to inter-club competitions.
According to the new rules, ONLY local coaches with CAF Pro Licence and CAF A Licence are allowed to lead their teams in both the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup tournaments this season.

Furthermore, the rules stipulates that coaches who come from outside the African continent should have the UEFA Pro License to take part in CAF inter-club competitions.
Tinkler holds a UEFA A Licence, and it is for that reason he is unable to sit on the technical team bench for the matches.

However, the rule doesn’t apply to assistant coaches, and therefore, Diogo Peral, who holds a CAF B Licence, will be on the bench for Cape Town City.

“No,” Tinkler answered the question as per iDiski Times.
“Diogo is gonna be there, Diogo is allowed to be on the bench.”

Tinkler previously had a taste of both the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup with Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United.
In fact, he was steered both Pirates and SuperSport United to CAF Confederation Cup finals in 2015 and 2017 respectively.
