According to the City’s beach water quality report, the City closed all four beaches on Thursday after water tests detected elevated E.coli levels.
Reopened Beaches and Current Status
On Saturday, the municipality confirmed that eThekwini Beach, Country Club Beach, and Battery Beach have reopened following further water quality testing.
The City has not released the specific test results and has not yet updated the Municipal Beach Status Report.
Blue Lagoon Beach remains closed. The municipality monitors 22 open bathing beaches with lifeguards.

Court Ruling Pushes Municipality to Act
The announcement follows a Pietermaritzburg High Court ruling last week, which placed the municipality on notice to address sewage spills affecting beaches and other water bodies.
The court ordered the City to urgently implement an action plan for sewer infrastructure repairs and to report progress back to the court.
In response, the municipality said many of the court-ordered measures are already underway.
It added that wastewater treatment works across the region have shown significant improvement.
