Thunderstorm warning for KZN: Damaging winds, excessive lightning and heavy downpours
KZN will be hit by thunderstorms accompanied by damaging winds and heavy rain on Thursday and Friday, the weather service warned.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for thunderstorms in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) on Thursday, 13 October.
THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR KZN AHEAD OF WEEKEND
The warning is effective from Thursday at 16:00 until 23:00 for parts of the province while a different part will be affected from 15:00 until 23:00 on Friday, 14 October.
The weather service said conditions in Ilembe, King Cetshwayo, Nkandla, uMfolozi and parts of Umzinyathi municipalities will favour severe thunderstorms on Thursday.
“These thunderstorms are expected to be accompanied by strong damaging winds, excessive lightning and heavy downpours,” said the weather service.
The potential impacts of the thunderstorms in the mentioned areas include:
- Localised infrastructure damage.
- Localised flooding due to the heavy rain.
- Minor vehicle accidents.
- Difficult driving conditions and increased travelling times.
- Flying debris that could lead to injury.
On Friday, scattered thunderstorms are expected in Uthukela, Amajuba, Umzinyathi and parts of Zululand municipalities. The thunderstorms will also be accompanied by heavy rain, strong wind and heavy rain. The potential impacts of the weather are the same as listed above.
