Trevor: ‘What a strange relationship my gran had with the Queen’
Trevor Noah on the 'strange' relationship his grandmother had with Queen Elizabeth II as they were both born and died in the same year.

South African-born comedian Trevor Noah opened up about a “strange” relationship his grandmother had with Queen Elizabeth II in a #BetweenTheScenes clip seen in a tweet on 11 September.
THE COMEDIAN ON QUEEN ELIZABETH II’s DEATH
Trevor Noah spoke about the late Queen Elizabeth II in a #BetweenTheScenes clip from The Daily Show. The South African-born comedian spoke about the Queen’s legacy and what she symbolised for different people.
“It really is a complicated legacy. I know everybody wants to try, or many people want to try and distil it down to one idea, one moment, one feeling. But I think it’s far more complicated than that,” he said.
“For some people, the queen symbolised something and someone. It could be anything. She could’ve symbolised a world that was moving in a certain direction. For some people, she symbolised a woman being in power, which was inspiring,” he continued.
Trevor also mentioned that to some people the Queen symbolised colonialism.
“And then, obviously, for other people, she evokes thoughts of colonisation. She makes people think the worst of the British Empire. It’s complicated; it’s nuanced,” he added.
This comes after Buckingham Palace announced that Queen Elizabeth II died peacefully at Balmoral Castle on Thursday 8 September.

TREVOR NOAH ON ‘STRANGE’ RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN QUEEN AND GRANDMOTHER
The comedian opened up about a personal conversation between himself and his mother Patricia Nombuyiselo Noah. He explained that his mom was shocked when his grandmother passed away earlier this year. This was because his mom thought that his grandmother will be alive as long as the Queen was alive.
Trevor noted that the Queen and his grandmother were born in the same year.
“I thought that as long as the queen is alive, your gran will be alive. Because they were more in the same year and are the same age, I’m shocked,” he recalled his mom saying.
The Daily Show host then revealed that his messaged his mom when the news of the Queen’s death broke and she said “I told you”.
“What a strange relationship you think my gran has with the queen,” he continued.
