A man and a woman were found severely trapped in a vehicle in a rear-end collision on the N2 highway in KwaZulu-Natal.

Two people have been killed in a horrific accident on the N2 southbound highway in KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday.

TWO KILLED IN N2 HIGHWAY WRECKAGE

According to ALS Paramedics Medical Services, the accident happened on the N2 just after Umhlanga at around 16h30.

ALS Paramedics with Netcare 911 and VIP Medical arrived at the scene. What they found was total carnage, ALS said.

“Two vehicles had collided in a rear-end format, obstructing most of the roadway.”

A man and a woman were found severely entrapped in the wreckage. Advanced Life Support Paramedics quickly assessed the two of them.

Unfortunately, they showed no signs of life and there was nothing further that paramedics could do for them.

“They were both declared dead on the scene.”

OTHERS INJURED IN THE SAME COLLISION

Two other people suffered moderate injuries. They were stabilised at the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital in Durban for further medical treatment that they required.

“At this stage, the events leading up to the accident are unknown, however, South African Police Service were on the scene and will be investigating further,” ALS Paramedics said.

SAME N2 HIGHWAY TOOK 21 LIVES INCLUDING 19 CHILDREN

The same long N2 highway had taken the lives of 19 children and two adults when a truck plunged into a bakkie in Pongola on Friday.

Dashcam footage showed the speeding truck trying to overtake another truck. But it suddenly collided head-on with a bakkie in the oncoming lane.

The collision saw the death of 19 children, aged between 5 and 12 years old. Some had succumbed to their injuries in hospital. Two further adults were killed.

But shortly after the collision, the driver of the truck reportedly escaped the scene. He got out of the drunk, managed to hitch-hike a lift and fled.

He was however arrested after he handed himself over to the police.
