Valentine’s weekend weather: Heavy downpours expected

Brace yourself for intense weather conditions across the country. This is what you can expect for KwaZulu-Natal, North West and Free State on Saturday, 14 February and Sunday, 15 February.

KWAZULU-NATAL

A Yellow level 4 warning for severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours is on the cards for KZN. The storm will be accompanied by strong, damaging winds, large amounts of small hail, and excessive lightning, so it’s definitely a weekend to stay weather-aware.

DURBAN

On Saturday, Durban will be cloudy with widespread showers and thundershowers. A high of 25°C is expected. Sunday will be cooler, with a maximum of 22°C.

NORTH WEST

The eastern parts of the North West can expect a Yellow level 2 warning. The storm could lead to damage to infrastructure, informal settlements, property, vehicles, livelihoods and livestock, residents are urged to be cautious, especially in vulnerable areas.

MAHIKENG

Partly cloudy conditions with scattered showers and thundershowers are on the cards. Saturday will see a high of 28°C, and 29°C on Sunday.

FREE STATE

A Yellow level 2 warning is in place for the extreme eastern parts of the Free State. Severe thunderstorms are anticipated, with disruptive weather conditions possible.

BLOEMFONTEIN

Bloemfontein will see partly cloudy skies with isolated showers and thundershowers. A maximum of 28°C is expected on Saturday, and 27°C is on the cards for Sunday.
