An overturned car on the N1 North in Midrand engulfed in flames has caused a standstill and motorists are advised to use other routes.

An overturned car on the N1 North between Allandale and New Road in Midrand is on fire.

A 19-second clip shows an overturned car on fire

Anti-crime activist Yusuf Abramjee shared a 19-second clip of cars on the other side of the road slowing down as the car engulfed in flames lays on its roof.

While the cause of the incident has not been established, firefighters can be seen towards the end of the clip. At around the 16-second mark, it seems as though a fire extinguisher of sorts is used to quell the blaze.

Traffic is at a standstill

Traffic is backed up on the N1 North and in the opposite direction at the moment. Motorists who are travelling between Pretoria and Joburg are being advised to avoid the N1. Other routes that could be used for motorists avoiding the car crash are the R55 or the R21.

N4 in Nelspruit closed after a collision involving trucks

In an unrelated incident, it was previously reported that the N4 at the Sudwala turn-off in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga has been closed to traffic following a collision involving two trucks. 

The accident happened on Tuesday morning 27 September. According to emergency service Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle van Reenen, reports from the scene are that two trucks have collided with one overturning.

The wreckage occupies the width of the roadway and the road is closed to all traffic. Both drivers sustained moderate injuries and were treated and stabilised on scene before being taken to a nearby hospital for further care,” he said. Read the full story here.
