The South African Weather Service has warned of serious thunderstorms across the country on Tuesday, 23 March.

WEATHER: Extreme storm warnings issued for these provinces

Wet and wild weather is expected in KwaZulu-Natal, Free State and the North West on Tuesday, 24 March. The South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued several warnings for intense conditions.

KWAZULU-NATAL

The SAWS has issued two warnings for KwaZulu-Natal. Over the northern parts of the province, a Yellow Level 4 Warning has been issued. Severe thunderstorms associated with heavy downpours and strong gusty winds are expected. While in the southern parts of KZN, a Yellow Level 2 Warning is in place for localised flooding of susceptible low-lying bridges and roads.

DURBAN

Durban will be cloudy with scattered showers and rain. A minimum of 23°C and a maximum of 26°C. Despite the clouds, the expected UVB Sunburn Index is very high.

FREE STATE

The Free State is in for a Yellow Level 2 Warning with severe thunderstorms associated with heavy downpours that may result in localised flooding of susceptible low-lying bridges and roads.

BLOEMFONTEIN

In Bloem, Tuesday will see cloudy conditions with scattered showers and thundershowers. A chilly low of 16°C is expected, and a breezy 25°C is expected.

NORTH WEST

The North West can also expect a Yellow Level 2 Warning. Severe thunderstorms that could result in localised flooding of susceptible low-lying bridges and roads, and damage to infrastructure and settlements due to strong gusty winds, are expected.

MAHIKENG

Mahikeng will be cloudy with scattered showers and thundershowers. Temperatures will range from 17°C to 25°C.
