The white-ball tour of Australia imminent, a leadership void is one of the major question marks with which the Green Shirts are going into it.

On October 2, Babar Azam stepped down officially as the skipper of Pakistan’s white-ball team. Since then, the PCB started looking for candidates who could replace him to lead them in both ODI and T20I formats.

There have been reports that the experienced wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan has emerged as a potential candidate to captain the national white-ball team. There were further reports that the wicketkeeper and controlling body of the cricket had an agreement on issues relating to captaincy.

His first assignment would be a three-match ODIs and T20Is series against Australia starting from November 4, if Rizwan replaces him to take over the mantle of the new skipper.

It would be pertinent to mention here that the name of opener Fakhar Zaman besides all-rounder Shadab Khan also came into consideration. However, both are likely to miss the tour to Australia due to fitness issues and owing to poor form respectively.

Sources meanwhile claimed that the selection committee has also finalized the squads for the Australia tour which will see the inclusion of new faces in the shape of Mehran Mumtaz and Sufiyan Muqeem getting a maiden call. The pacers earlier, Mohammad Hasnain, who last played ODI in 2023 is expected to return. Hasnain impressed the selectors with his outstanding performances in the recently held Champions Cup and President’s Cup.

Also, there are considerations for the all-rounder Aamir Jamal and wicketkeeper-batsman Haseebullah in their travels to Australia for the white-ball series.
