‘A superstar’: Choirboy steals hearts at Queen’s funeral

It may be a sad day for the British as Queen Elizabeth II is laid to rest on Monday 19 September, but it wasn’t all sadness for mourners as one choirboy managed to steal the show and warm hearts.

As thousands of people around the world tuned in to watch the Queen’s state funeral, the young boy — who has been dubbed the auburn-haired cherub — sang his heart out at the ceremony held at Westminster Abbey in London.

CHOIRBOY STEALS SHOW AT QUEEN’S FUNERAL

According to Newsweek, music was performed by the Choir of Westminster Abbey. The choir consists of 30 choirboys aged between 8 and 13 years old, and 12 adult singers, all led by musical director, James O’Donnell.

As the choir performed three hymns, two anthems, and two new works created for the Queen’s funeral, one of the choirboys caught the attention of people watching at home. The ginger choirboy could be seen singing his heart out during the service, moving expressively as the choral music filled the abbey.

THE FUNERAL AND BURIAL

Some 2000 guests attended the funeral, with King Charles III leading the procession from Westminster Hall to the abbey alongside the Queen Consort. The Prince and Princess of Wales and their children followed behind, among other senior royals.

After travelling to Windsor Castle, the Queen’s coffin was lifted from the state hearse and carried into St George’s Chapel ahead of the committal service — the Mirror reports.

The Queen, who died on September 8 at the age of 96 at Balmoral, was laid to rest in the King George VI Memorial Chapel at St. George’s, Windsor, following a private family ceremony. She was laid to rest with her beloved husband Prince Philip. Her crown, orb and sceptre was removed from her coffin so she can descend into her grave “as a simple Christian soul”.
