Banyana stalwart Janine Van Wyk has confirmed she has signed for Greek club Ergotoris, her fourth overseas club.

Taking to Twitter on Thursday, Van Wyk confirmed the deal, which comes in the wake of her memorable Banyana swansong as she led the team to success at WAFCON in July.

Van Wyk has previously played for Houston Dash in the USA, Danish club Fortuna Hjørring, and most recently Glasgow City in Scotland.

“Looking forward to start this new and exciting chapter that I believe would be yet another platform for me to continue to grow to become the best version of myself,” Van Wyk said on Twitter. “Another challenge to improve, get better and continue to strive towards greatness.”

Van Wyk was part of a triumphant Banyana team that won the hearts of the nation

Desiree Ellis’ charges were crowned African champions for the first time ever as they beat hosts Morocco 2-1 in the final in July.

The South African Football Association (SAFA) had promised R9.2 million as the bonus for Banyana Banyana if they won the WAFCON.

And the country’s FA fulfilled that promise while the Sport, Arts and Culture department added R5.8 million on top of that R9.2 million.

Sports Minister Nathi Mthethwa also revealed that the department met with the national government after the R5.8 million bonus was pledged.

The government, led by president Cyril Ramaphosa, further decided to increase the bonus prize from R5.8 to R15 million, meaning R9.2 million was added to the initial pledge.
