‘Behind The Crown’: Five bombshells from new royal book

Royal correspondent Valentine Low dropped quite a few bombshell claims against the royal family in his book Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Crown. Ahead of the book’s release The Times published extracts – here are five bombshell claims from the extracts of the book…

1. BOMBSHELL: MEGHAN LABELLED ‘NARCISSISTIC SOCIOPATH’

Valentine Low alleges that Meghan Markle was called a “narcissistic sociopath” by her aides. The aides allegedly called themselves “Sussex Survivors’ Club” after “Megxit”. Megxit is known as Meghan and Harry’s decision to step down as working royals in 2020.

The book also alleges that the aides believed Meghan’s departure from the royal family was premeditated. One of the concerns was said to be “whether she was going to be able to make money for herself”.

“She wanted to be rejected because she was obsessed with that narrative from day one,” said an ex-staff member to the author.

2. PRINCE HARRY ALLEGEDLY EMAILED HIS FATHER SAYING HE WAS ‘UNHAPPY’

Low claims that Prince Harry and Meghan had already planned “Megxit”.

“Their escape plans were already laid, amid the greatest secrecy,” he wrote.

Low also claims that “Harry sent an email to his father, saying that they were unhappy” indicating “the current set-up was not working for them, and they wanted to go and live in North America”.

Prince Harry allegedly wanted to inform the Queen of his plans in-person, having hoped “to see his grandmother alone before he left Canada”.

3. BOMBSHELL: KING CHARLES III IS A ‘DEMANDING’ BOSS

Low claims that the new King “was very demanding of his staff”.

“He is always working. Seven days a week… At any moment he may want to call you about something… The pace is pretty intense,” said a source.

4. THE QUEEN WANTED PRINCE HARRY AND MEGHAN TO BE ‘PART TIME’ ROYALS

Low claims that the late Queen initially wanted Prince Harry and Meghan to be part time royals.

She “wanted to find a compromise whereby they could live part of the year abroad but carry out some royal duties at home,” according to the book.

So, senior aides worked on solutions and went through “five different scenarios”. However, it didn’t seem to work out because anything they did would reflect the institution.

“The view from the palace establishment was that, however much time Harry and Meghan spent away from royal duties, anything they did would reflect on the institution,” according to the book.

5. BOMBSHELL: MEGHAN ALLEGEDLY TOLD PRINCE HARRY SHE WOULD BREAK UP WITH HIM IF…

Low claims that Meghan Markle told Prince Harry that she would break up with him if he didn’t publicly announce that they were dating.

“She was saying, ‘If you don’t put out a statement confirming I’m your girlfriend, I’m going to break up with you’. Harry was in a panic,” read the extract.
