Cape Town floods: Severe flooding leads to traffic chaos
Cape Town experienced heavy rainfall on Tuesday morning, resulting in flooded areas and roadways across the city.

Emergency services were busy on Tuesday as heavy rain battered Cape Town, leading to widespread flooding across the city.
Multiple neighborhoods were affected, causing significant disruptions especially on the roads. Areas such as Table View, Wynberg, and Parow experienced relentless rainfall throughout the day.
Several roads turned into rivers, and mudslides, along with blocked traffic lanes, resulted in gridlock in various suburbs.

Charlotte Powell, the spokesperson for the City’s Disaster Risk Management, urged residents to remain vigilant and prioritize safety, as the stormwater systems struggled to cope with the heavy downpour.
“We urge all residents to remain vigilant as we prepare for the winter season. Ensuring safety and minimising potential flooding is a collective effort between the City of Cape Town and its residents,” Powell said after heavy rain caused havoc on Tuesday.
The City of Cape Town recommends the following precautions:
Clean Gutters: Regularly remove debris to facilitate proper water flow.
Prune Trees: Trim branches to prevent blockages during heavy rain.
Clear Waterways: Ensure nearby drainage systems are free from obstructions.
Report Potholes: Promptly notify authorities of potholes to expedite repairs.
Maintain Drainage Systems: Regularly clear channels to prevent water buildup.
Elevate Structures: Raise floor levels where possible to reduce flood risk.
Prepare Sandbags: Use as temporary barriers against encroaching water.
Dig Trenches: Direct water away from property foundations.
Waterproof Structures: Ensure roofs and walls are sealed against leaks.
Report Issues: Immediately inform authorities of blocked drains or illegal dumping
