Is this deal still on the cards?

Cape Town Spurs CEO dangles a carrot in front of Kaizer Chiefs’ noses

Kaizer Chiefs have been battling to negotiate a fee with Cape Town Spurs for Asanele Velebayi but there might be some encouragement.

Cape Town Spurs CEO changes his tune on Velebayi

Spurs boss Ari Efstathiou was adamant that they wouldn’t sell Velebayi, who he’s described as a ‘diamond’ on the cheap. Velebayi has been in the Spurs system for a decade. This came after he deemed Chiefs’ initial offers for the player as unsatisfactory. However, now he sounds a bit more receptive to doing a deal:

“To answer your question regarding that, the ‘shop is closed’, it is. We have to continue to operate as a club and focus on the challenge before us and that is to compete on the field, not off it,” Efstathiou told iDiski Times

“In the meantime, if someone knocks on the door, as Stellenbosch did, there will be someone to open.

“Last we looked outside, there was nobody standing there and knocking!”

Mixed signals

A recent Citizen report had this to say:

“You saw today that he had a good game and the Chiefs fans will love him because he’s quick on the wing and tricky to defend against. The good thing is that both clubs have a decent relationship after Rushwin’s (Dortley) move to Chiefs recently and hopefully they will come to an agreement.”

Kaizer Chiefs considered Moremi

AmaZulu’s Tshepang Moremi is the latest man linked with a move to Naturena. The 23-year-old made 29 league appearances for Usuthu last term, bagging two goals. He’s primarily a left winger but can operate behind a central striker or on the right-hand side of the attack. He has previously been a target for the club.

Chiefs lose friendly to TS Galaxy

Amakhosi hosted a behind-closed-doors friendly against TS Galaxy, losing 0-3. One of the goal-scorers was former Amakhosi DDC star Puso Dithejane, who’s thriving with the Rockets after his acrimonious departure from Naturena.

Kaizer Chiefs finished the 2023-2024 league campaign in tenth position, their worst placing in the history of the DStv Premiership. Their last league title came back in 2015, their most recent piece of major silverware.
