Cape Town warns of water supply disruptions in THESE areas

The City of Cape Town (CoCT) revealed that Atlantis Industrial, Witsands and surrounding farm areas will face water disruptions from 12:00 on Saturday, 24 September.

How long will the water supply be disrupted?

The City says its Water and Sanitation Directorate will be conducting emergency repairs on a water pipeline along Dassenberg Road in Atlantis. The work is expected to conclude at 18:00 on Sunday, 25 September.

The repairs require the shutting off of the water supply in the pipeline to allow for the maintenance team to work safely. Subsequently, the Atlantis Industrial, Witsands and surrounding farm areas will face a disruption of the water supply.

The City says the water supply main to the aforementioned areas has developed a ‘serious leak’ along Dassenberg Road.

The repairs involve excavating and draining the area and a section of the pipeline as well as replacing the damaged section of the pipe before the water flow can be restored,” the City said.

Consumers are advised to lower their consumption

Consumers have been advised to reduce their water consumption during the repair progress. The City says this will ensure sustained water supply and pressure across the network.

The City sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused, however, it is imperative that it maintains its water supply infrastructure for the benefit of its consumers,” it concluded.

Second water supply disruption in Cape Town this week

Earlier this week the City’s Water and Sanitation Department announced that it would be conducting zero pressure tests on the main water supply to the Zwaanswyk area in Tokai.

The work caused a disruption of the supply in the area. The disruption began on Wednesday, 21 September from 22:00 and is reportedly concluded on Thursday, 22 September at 03:00.

Residents were advised to store water in clean, sealed containers during the testing period. This is to ensure that their taps are closed and to avoid any loss or damage when the supply is restored on 22 September.
